What should the permissions be for a script and how do I change them?

SUMMARY

The script needs to be executable.

DETAILED SOLUTION

To use cgi on our servers, you must first make the extension of the script or program .cgi. You must also set the permissions of the script to 755. Some FTP clients give you the ability to do this. Most of the time, however, you will need to telnet to the server to change the permissions. After logging into the server, you should change directories to the directory where the file is located. This can be done using "cd" (similar to DOS). You can then type the command "chmod +x scriptname.cgi".
