What is the realistic threat of "hackers"?

SUMMARY

They are not much of a threat.

DETAILED SOLUTION

Solaris is historically known as the most secure version of UNIX, and that is what we are running. The only problems we have had with hackers on our Sun systems were when users used extremely poor and easy to guess passwords. There have been several attempts by other means to get in, but there have been no successes. We do our best to keep up with the current OS security patches and software patches so that we are not vulnerable. There are though new methods of attack and entry to a system that are being discovered every day. No system of this nature will ever be safe from attack, but by staying abreast of what is out there, we significantly reduce the chances that a hacker will get in.
